Eric Healey Biography from The Legends of Hockey

Eric Healey was born January 20, 1975 in Hull, Massachusetts. A free-agent signing of the Calgary Flames in 1998, Healey is a graduate of the ECAC's R.P.I. Engineers.

A skilled forward, Healey played four years at R.P.I., registering 168 points (82-86-168) while capturing ECAC First Team All-Star honours in 1997-98, ECAC Second Team All-Star honours in 1996-97 and NCAA East Second All-American Team honours in both 1996-97 and 1997-98.

Following a solid collegiate career, Healey split his first pro season between the Flames AHL affiliate in Saint John and the IHL's Orlando Solar Bears. In the summer of 1999, Healy was acquired by the Phoenix Coyotes and went on to play the next two seasons with the club's AHL affiliate in Springfield.

In 2001-02, Healey split his time between Manchester of the AHL and Jackson on the ECHL before exploding offensively with Manchester in 2002-03. In his first full season with the club Healy established career highs in goals with 42, leading the AHL and points with 73 before signing as a free-agent with the Atlanta Thrashers in the summer of 2003. Despite seeing his numbers drop from the previous year, Healey still managed to finish second in team scoring with 51 points on the strength of 31 goals.

After toiling in the minors for five years, Healey opted to sign with Mannheim of the DEL for the 2004-05 season before returning to North America the following year. During the summer months of 2005, the Hull, MA native signed as a free-agent with the Boston Bruins. Despite spending the majority of the season with the club's AHL affiliate in Providence, Healey impressed the Bruins brass enough to warrant his first NHL action in the latter stages of the 2005-06 season.

In the summer of 2006, Healey signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He spent the majority of his stint with the organization competing with the club's AHL affiliate in Springfield where he lead the club in goals (27), assists (48) and points (75). Despite his offensive tally of points in the AHL, the Lightning opted not to re-sign the Hull, Mass. native who would later sign as a free agent in the summer with the Colorado Avalanche.
